Sometimes, when you’re looking at Poshmark, it might be a little scary to know where or how to start. Don’t worry! This how to sell on Poshmark guide will give you everything you need for successful selling.
When I first started out trying to sell online, I had no idea what I was doing.
There was A LOT to learn and there’s a lot of information out there that didn’t help me at all. Now that I’ve sold on different platforms for a few years, I’ve learned the tips and tricks to making sure sales are made and buyers are happy.
Why Poshmark?
Poshmark is the leading platform where you can sell and buy items via virtual closets. You get to choose how much you price the items, and offer discounts if you want as well!
There’s a lot of good things about Poshmark, but what’s the catch? Poshmark takes a 20% cut. Ouch, I know. I thought the same thing, but it has truly been the most lucrative selling platform for clothes by a landslide. And there are a few reasons why that we’ll cover in this guide.
This is the only guide you need for how to sell on Poshmark effectively!
How to Sell on Poshmark
Create Your Poshmark Account
Okay, okay. This sounds straight forward, but there are a few things to be mindful of.
If you haven’t created an account yet, sign up using the referral code SAVEDINTEREST to earn a credit.
Ok, you’ve made your account. Now make sure that your account is friendly! Upload a photo of yourself, and create a description that pulls people in. What sets you apart from others? Why should they shop your closet? It’s personal quirks that makes you unique, why not talk about it?
Do not leave your description or photo blank! Remember, this is your introduction to people. You are showing them your closet, so it is a big deal.
Prepare to sell on Poshmark
Yes, you need to prepare your items. What the heck does that mean? While these are used items, buyers don’t want them to look dingy and used.
Make sure you clean whatever it is you’re trying to sell.
- Are scuffs or stains present? Try your best to get them out before you post.
- If there are holes that can’t be easily fixed or there is really bad pilling you can’t get rid of, consider donating, tossing, or using as an old rag.
- Any wrinkles? Give it a quick steam or iron, or throw it in your next wash load.

Poshmark Photos
One of the first things I learned the hard way was to take photos on your phone in square mode. I never recommend using the app to take photos. Always take a few photos on your phone and upload them to Poshmark. Here are the most important things you need to know about taking Poshmark photos:
- Always take photos on your phone first. Using the app to take photos will take foreverrr. Don’t do that unless you want to spend too much time on this.
- Use square mode. Poshmark uses square photos, so just take the photos in square mode so you don’t have to hassle with sizing when you upload your photos into the app.
- Poshmark allows you to upload up to 17 photos per item. While you don’t need to upload all of those, be sure to take at least 2-3 photos per post. Remember, you’re selling things online, so don’t forget to include details that might help sell your items.
- Don’t forget the details! Whether you’re selling embezzled shoes or an asymmetrical leather jacket with a sweet zipper, be sure to take photos of the details for why you might’ve bought the item to begin with!
- Don’t use Poshmark filters. I haven’t found a Poshmark filter that has helped show the item in its true state. Just don’t do it.
- Use natural light. Seeing photos in natural light is the best way to show your item in its natural state. If there are shadows or fluorescent light, your item won’t look like it actually does.
Pricing on Poshmark
This is where I see the biggest mistakes being made. A lot of people like to price their items for what they bought them for, and that’s just not how it works in the resale space, even if your item is new with tags (NWT) or new without tags (NWOT).
Luckily, I have a step by step guide on how to price used clothing online that gives you exactly what you need. Another useful method is to search for the item you intend to sell and filter by sold on the platform. You’ll be able to see the price other people were able to sell that same item, or similar items, for.
Poshmark Titles
Details details details!! Don’t forget the details! If you know the brand of the item you’re selling, make sure that is in the title. It’s even better if you know the style name as well.
Just look at the difference between these two titles:
- Black Leggings
- Black Lululemon In Movement Everlux 25″ Leggings
WOAH! Which one is likely to get more views? Possibly the first one… but which one is more likely to get actual buyers? The second one. Why? Because people are searching for keywords in their search. Online shopping should be simple, so simplify it for your buyers.
Poshmark Descriptions
You might be sick of hearing this, but DETAILS! If you reversed the roles and you were a buyer, what would you want to see? You’d probably want to know about measurements, and you’d definitely want to know about any stains, holes, scuffs, or snags.
Giving that courtesy helps buyers know exactly what to expect. It also gives you great ratings in the end, and possibly repeat buyers.
What Sells on Poshmark
So you might be wondering, what actually sells on Poshmark? Well, brand names generally sell faster. Personally, I have a slew of items that I’d love to sell online, but I don’t expect them to. There’s a reason for this that I’ll discuss in another post!
Spend Time on Poshmark
The great thing about Poshmark that sets it apart from other selling platforms is that you can share the item to bring it back into people’s feeds.
Poshmark automatically sorts its feed by Just In, so you can always repost your listing. But if someone sorts by Just Shared, you’ll be at the top of that list. It takes less time to share, but Poshmark rewards you (from my experience) for spending time on the app and sharing listings.
Offers and Sales on Poshmark
This platform encourages bartering. It’s fun, but can also be stressful if you’re not ready for it. Be ready to get offers and negotiate. And be ready to offer discounts to likers if you’re ready to sell!
and…. SOLD!
Let’s say you made your first sale. CONGRATS! But now what? Poshmark will email you a shipping label that you’ll need to print out. In most cases, a free USPS Priority Mail shipping envelope will do the trick. I stick to the boxes and envelopes as much as possible and usually will go to the post office to pick up more supplies when needed.
Here are some things to know for once you’ve made your sale:
- Use free USPS packaging.
- The buyer pays for shipping, and Poshmark prepares and emails the label for you. It’s up to you to print the label and prepare the package.
- Make sure you ship your item out fairly fast! Poshmark likes for you to send your package out within 3 days, but try your best to do same day or the next day. With shipping times being funky these days, it’s best to just get the item out ASAP.
- Poshmark will pay you after the buyer has received the item. The buyer has a grace period of 3 days to review the item before Poshmark releases your payment to you.
- Once Poshmark has transferred you your cut, you can transfer your money to your bank!
This post was all about how to sell on Poshmark! I hope you found some helpful tips and tricks on here for how I sell my items.
What I recommend:
- A printer is a great investment so you can print your labels.
- Some people write hand written notes, others use a thank you sticker or something similar. It’s your choice what you use, but I’d recommend doing one of these options.
