Here’s a list of your best business books for beginners!
1. Getting More
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read this book. It’s a fantastic read for understanding negotiation. What’s so important to know is that everything is negotiable. EVERYTHING. Stuart Diamond goes into detail about the important of your framework for negotiating.
Negotiating isn’t black and white. And Diamond does a great job of showing that value is in the eye of the beholder. For example, something might be more valuable to you than it is to the person you’re negotiating with. But they might think something else has more worth that you feel doesn’t. That’s the premise of Getting More. As I update this best business books list, I don’t see this one leaving.
2. Zero to One
Zero to One is all about startups. Everyone talks about success, but they don’t talk about the zero to one on what it took to get there. Peter Thiel is a brilliant businessman who has really distilled the meaning of being a successful startup.
And maybe you’re not looking to start a business. But his savvy and personal stories of cofounding PayPal really gives you an inside scoop on success on a large scale. But it also gives you a good grasp on how that success began. It’s a fantastic frame of reference for anyone looking for business prowess.
3. Rich Dad Poor Dad
This book has a few fundamentals I disagree with, but all in all, it does provide a lot of food for thought. While I don’t personally implement some of Robert Kiyosaki’s suggestions, I do think this book has a lot of great examples of thinking outside of the box in order to succeed.
There’s a lot to learn about learning, and Kiyosaki gives fantastic ideas for how to earn more money through just that. A lot of things seem pretty straightforward and simple, but I remember reading this book and starting down a rabbit hole to learn more about various topics. Rich Dad Poor Dad helped light that flame.
4. Start With Why
I first saw Simon Sinek on a TED Talk and was so enamored by his talk, I bought his book immediately after. A lot of people have adopted starting with why, but they don’t realize that it came from Sinek, and specifically this book.
Start With Why delves into your reason for doing something. He asks the question why some people become so successful doing something. He also asks why some of those successful people can’t make their success repeatable. Sinek answers these questions and really provides a lot of food for thought in terms of success.
5. The Lean Startup
If you’re into building a small business (that will grow into a large business), this is the book for you. The Lean Startup is a fantastic book to show how a startup can catapult to success.
Eric Ries gives great input on why most startups fail. And he also gives real world advice on how to not be a failing startup. The Lean Startup is essentially a step by step guide on basically how to be a business boss. You’ll want to take notes!
6. Total Money Makeover
One of the most important things you can do is learn how to manage money. Now I can’t talk about Dave Ramsey’s plan enough. It helped me be wiser with my money, get out of debt, and cashflow an incredible amount of things. The Total Money Makeover completely changed my mindset on finances and budgeting.
Because of this book, a lot changed for me, including my fiduciary confidence. A book like this is truly priceless, and this isn’t the only time you’ll be hearing about Dave Ramsey’s plan on this site. It’s so important, and provides so much ease to daily life BECAUSE of this book and the things I’ve personally adopted from it.
7. Radical Candor
Kim Scott is the author of Radical Candor and she totally slays on this Radical Candor book. She comes from decades of success in large companies, and bestows her wisdom upon us on what she’s learned.
If you ever plan on having employees, a boss, or coworkers, this book will greatly help you. It’s an in depth look on PEOPLE and how to manage working with them and their differences in working (ethic and personality). It’s a great book to provide perspective.
